4 Books I’ve Read Lately + Reviews

Happy Thursday! I read 4 books recently that I wanted to share with you. If you love psychological thrillers as much as I do, you’ll love these books!

Lies* by T.M. Logan

Joe is a teacher and is the primary caretaker of their young son William. Mel, his wife, has the higher paying job so the childcare falls mostly on Joe. One day, while Joe and William are on their way home, William spots his mother’s car and asks his dad to stop so he can see her. After leading a perfectly normal, might I say boring?, life, this one incident leads to a chain of events that upturn his life. The book is told in Joe’s perspective and as the story progresses, lies upon lies are revealed so we don’t know what is the truth anymore. I thought Joe was a bit passive and naive but nevertheless, I was hooked from chapter one and could not wait to finish it to see how it got resolved. Definitely recommend! {To be published on Sept 11, 2018.}

The Other Woman* by Sandie Jones

Emily and Adam meet and fall in love. All of their friends and family are excited for their new relationship except for one person, Adam’s mom. On the surface, Pammie appears lovely but deep inside, she’s possessive of her son and will do anything to keep Adam from marrying Emily. It was a slow read because with every page, I kept screaming to Emily “break up already!” Adam is completely oblivious to his mother’s ways and only thinks Emily is being paranoid.  I was rewarded for my patience because it picked up in the second half and I was flabbergasted by the ending! Maybe it was obvious but I did not see it coming and I thought it was well-done. Definitely worth a read! {To be published on Aug 21, 2018.}

Bring Me Back by B.A. Paris

I really loved Behind Closed Doors so I was eager to read the latest from B.A. Paris. Finn and Layla are in France on holiday when one night, she disappears. Fast forward 12 years later and Finn is in a relationship with Ellen, Layla’s sister. They’ve just recently become engaged but now there’s speculation that Layla is alive after all this time. It took me over a month to finish this one because I kept getting sidetracked with other new books. I really wanted to love this book but most of it was slow and boring. But the ending! Wow, I did not see that coming! Idk, it’s a bit far-fetched…that’s all I can say without giving anything away.

The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager

Emma attended Camp Nightingale 15 years ago where 3 of her fellow campers disappeared into thin air one night. Present day, she is a thriving artist who paints those 3 girls as her subject as they continuously haunt her. While at her gallery opening, Emma runs into Franny Harris-White, the camp owner, who persuades her to return to the Camp as an art instructor to a new batch of young girls. Emma accepts thinking it will give her a chance to find out what really happened that night of the disappearances. I really enjoyed the Final Girls and this latest book lived up to expectations. The chapters are told in alternating flashbacks and present-day. Just when you think you have the ending figured out, you’ll be thrown a curveball, a major one at that! The ending completely shocked me! If you read one book, read this one!
