How We Wednesdays: Take Care of Ourselves

Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m linking up with Shay and Erika for their monthly link-up “How We” Wednesdays! This month’s topic is “How We Take Care of Ourselves.”

As a busy mom of 2 kids and a full-time job, I know how we can be pulled in so many directions. In order to take care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first. I’m sure this isn’t the first time you’ve heard this. Here’s how I like to take care of myself.

Eat well. 

As I’ve gotten older, I realize food isn’t about dieting and deprivation. I’m all about moderation and for me, if that means a little piece of chocolate every night, then so be it!

Exercise or just take a walk around the neighborhood.

Most days, I’m behind a computer, whether in the office or at home, so I try to get up and move around, or stretch at least every hour. Even if it’s not rigorous exercise, sometimes just a breath of fresh air will do wonders!

Put on some makeup.

I actually look forward to my mornings where 2 things are certain: a cup of coffee and putting on some makeup. On those days when I work from home, I still go through the effort of applying makeup. Taking care of myself means taking care of my physical self, which includes taking pride in my appearance and hygiene. I make sure to change out of my PJs as well!

Meet friends for coffee.

It’s always nice to get out and catch up with friends, even if it’s a short date over coffee.

Take a break and watch silly YouTube videos.

Sometimes I can’t step away from my desk. Those times, I’ll just take a little break and watch something quick on YouTube. I’ve been hooked on the Amazon hauls lately on YouTube. You can check out this post for my recent haul from Amazon.

Light a candle or diffuse essential oils.

There’s nothing better than lighting some great smelling candles! I especially love the vanilla scented ones.

I also love the scent of peppermint and orange oils, especially when I’m dragging. It’s so invigorating! You can even diffuse some oils while bathing. I’ve written about essential oils in this post.

Put on a mask.

Something simple as applying a mask and sitting back for 15-20 minutes is divine. My kids see that weird thing on my face and they know to stay away, ha!

And lastly, pick up a good read

Nothing relaxes me more than getting cozy with a good book. Give me a good book and I can get lost in between the chapters for hours!
